These Poems and Songs are about Love

Geneveve

The skies are gray and cloudy,

they’re blue when you’re around!

The jack-rabbits ain’t jumping,

they’re lying on the ground

I’m just the same as before honey

I got no job, I ain’t got no money

But please come back to me,

 my darlin’ Geneveve

My folks in Tennessee keep telling

 me you’re coming home

I hope they’re right cos’ I can’t stand

no more of being alone

I’m just the same as before honey

I got no job, I ain’t got no money

But please come back to me,

my darlin’ Geneveve

I’m sorry that I hurt you

I didn’t mean those words

Your tears that night still haunt me

I feel kind of absurd

I’m just the same as before honey

I got no job, I ain’t got no money

But please come back to me,

my darlin’ Geneveve

Now if you truly love me

And you always said it’s so

You’ll hurry back into my arms

And I’ll never let you go

I’m just the same as before honey

I got no job, I ain’t got no money

But please come back to me,

my darlin’ Geneveve

The Homecoming

I was never one to settle down,

I moved from place to place

The years soon passed me by my friends,

Just like it was a race.

One night I had a vivid dream

An image came to mind

To rest a while or so it seemed

A resting place to find

No, not the kind of resting place

Where we lay down to die

But more a place to relax in

Somewhere to unwind

It seemed to me that such a place

Would be very hard to find

I’d met a lot of people

Some were bad and some were kind

I’d always been a loner

My friends they numbered few

How could I do this thing

It frightened me, that’s true

Then someone came into my life

She made me strong again

When I felt weak she held me tight

Through wind and storm and rain

When I did good she praised me

When I faltered she held me close

Encouraged by her words and deeds

From the ashes I arose

I realized the place was not

So much as where but who

And then it all came clear to me

Just what I had to do

And so I let the barriers fall

And opened up my heart

It felt as if I’d been re-born

I’d been given a brand new start

The things that I’d believed in

But kept hidden well from view

Began to take new meaning

I knew that it was true

And so began a journey

Not in body but in soul

A new life lay before me

And with it a new goal

The journey I found pleasant

Now this was something new

And it’s like a never-ending story

There are many things to do

But I’m getting there

And with her help I bring

A voice for people to enjoy

Each and every time I sing

The applause is so addictive

The plaudits great to read

But I would never have made it

Without her by my side

And so remember people

When you listen to my song

It would have never, never happened

If she hadn’t come along

There was a time

There was a time when I was young

The world looked bright, new songs were sung

And then a cloud came down and hovered over me

You came along then with your smile

You stayed and talked with me a while

Your smile the sunshine on my darkened sea

My heart was lifted, you can tell

I fell in love with you and well

My whole world brightened up right there and then

But something happened to that light

That first and precious love so bright

And I was plunged into darkness once again

So tell me where the hell have you been all this time

When you were here you know I thought that you were mine

But you ran away and left me here alone

Wondering if you’re ever, ever coming home

So though the years passed long and slow

I never had the chance to let you know

Just what, your eyes and sparkling smile meant to me

It made my heart beat oh so fast

If I had known it wouldn’t last

I guess I’d have never, ever let you get to me

But you got in and stole my heart

And though for years we’ve been apart

I still retain the hope that one day very soon

You’ll walk back into my life again

And rid this broken heart of pain

And let me tell ya, that day can’t come too soon

So tell me where the hell have you been all this time

When you were here you know I thought that you were mine

But you ran away and left me here alone

Wondering if you’re ever, ever coming home

Sometime I find it’s hard to carry on

My friends all tell me I had got you wrong

But I know deep inside my heart our love true

And so I live in hope that you’ll come back to me

It’s the only hope I have why can’t you see

And listen to me when I say my only love is you

Where Are You?

I was looking for that special one
You knew just who you were
You came into my life sometime ago
You are my special star

Where would I be if not for you?
You’ve made me what I am
A cliché? Yes but oh so true.
An angel in a can

I read the label carefully
Your wishes will come true
It said so on that label
That God had made for you

Now I am not religious
Well not that much and so
It was quite a leap of faith for me
Would you stay or would you go

I made that leap and found that I
Had made the most excellent choice
I’d found someone who believed in me
My style, my looks, my voice

And now I really do thank God
For without you I could not have come
To do the things I now do well
You are my morning sun

Sure sometimes I get mad at you
And you get mad at me
‘Cause we are very different
As anyone can see

They all said “you have no chance”
She’s way too young for you
But together we’d sing and laugh and dance
You were my dream come true

The years have passed by one by one
The people were proved wrong
Our love for one another grew
Together we’re so strong

So where are all the doubters now?
The “it will never lasts?”
My guess is that they’ve gone to ground
No more their icy blasts

So when the going gets too tough
And life seems hard to bear
To hold you close is quite enough
Life’s ups and downs we share

And so to reach the answer
You know you cannot hide
I turn, I look and there you are
Right here, right by my side.

Give it one more try

My head is spinning I just can’t think straight

I ought to go now ‘cause it’s getting late

But there’s nothing I can do

I guess it’s just too late to save it

It’s been a while since I saw you girl

And when I did my head was in a whirl

But there’s nothing I can do

I guess it’s just too late to save it

Chorus

There’s no more tears left for me to cry

Since you left and didn’t tell me why

Won’t you come back and give it

Come back and give it

Give it one more try

I know you’re out there with some other man

I’ll try to find you if I think I can

But there’s nothing I can do

I guess it’s just to late to save it

But when you wake to see the morning light

Just think of me and of a lonely night

Though there’s nothing I can do

I guess I’d really like to save it

Chorus

The phone is ringing, ringing off the wall

I can’t imagine that you’d make the call

Is there something I can do?

Girl I really want to save it

I know I wasn’t always good for you

But I can change, you know that this is true

Is there something I can do?

Girl I really want to save it

Chorus

I want you back, I need you by my side

You’ll never know girl, just how much I’ve cried

But if you come back to me

I know that we can save it

Girl if you come back to me

I just know that we can save it

Listen, Can You Hear My Heart

 Hey girl, listen to me

Tell me can’t you see

All the love I have for you

Well I know what you feel

And I know that it’s real

But my love for you is true

Chorus

Listen can you hear my heart?

Can you feel it beating fast?

Don’t you see it in my eyes?

Can’t you see it in my smile?

This love of ours is gonna last

When I first saw you girl

With your cute little curl

I knew that you were meant for me

Having searched for so long

You suddenly came along

Your love brought me to my knees

Chorus

Now together as one

I know what must be done

To make are love last strong and true

Girl just please don’t you hide

What you’re feeling inside

You know that I was meant for you

Chorus

If you believe in the second chance

When our eyes met you had me in a spin

I didn’t know whether to just give in

Your hand touched mine, I felt so alive

I’ve waited so long for love to arrive

But then you ran and left me all alone

I felt so cold; I was chilled to the bone

What was it that I did so wrong?

Were you that scared that you couldn’t stay long?

Chorus

Don’t you worry ‘bout the thunder and the lightning

Yes I know that they can be so very frightening

But in my arms you’ll never, ever need to worry

I’ll hold you close and slow there isn’t any hurry

If you believe in the second chance

Come back and dance

Dance with me

You aren’t a girl of the ordinary kind

Your eyes are so intense they really blow my mind

I miss your eyes and your tender, tender touch

Our love is natural and it means so much

My arms are reaching out girl, just for you

And though I can’t tell what you’re gonna do

I know it blew our minds on that first date

But I believe our love is meant to change our fate

Chorus

So just remember when the thunder cracks

That I can give you all the love you lack

My arms are safe and you know you make me smile

Won’t you come back if only for a while?

This is the place where you belong

I guess I’m trying to tell you in a song

When my lips touch yours I know that this was meant

To be a love that’s really heaven sent

Chorus
